St. Paul's Share-A-Card Ministry
--February, 2012
St. Paul's Share a Card Ministry was started over a year ago, although this was not the beginning of cards being sent from the Congregation. Cards have been mailed out to others from the Congregation for several years by a dedicated member of the Congregation, Ginny Mullen. Ginny chose this as a personal ministry and continues to bring cheer to others through a simple card. Today, the ministry continues to grow and she has added other volunteers as well.
Over the past year, Kay Schwab has stepped up as she designs & leads others to cardmaking and adds to the growth of the ministry's outreach. Since it began, these two ladies have spearheaded the rapidly growing ministry & they continue to work hard at teaching & helping other volunteers create cards through monthly card-making workshops. Collectively, the group has constructed & mailed out more than 100 car ds in this past year alone. These monthly workshops are led by Kay who shares her designs & then uses the help from volunteers to make the cards that are sent to homebound friends (or anyone experiencing difficulties or joys in their lives). They also make extra cards for members to pick up & mail on their own so that whenever someone may need of comfort, they too can send a card at a moment's notice.
Since the ministry began, the Church has received many positive comments from past recipients. One individual said it was "just what the doctor ordered". Their card was received on a day when they were struggling not only physically, but emotionally from the news in one of their darkest hours. Someone once said, "I was so happy, tears began to flow. It was like I just received a hug with a fold in the middle. I found it [the card] in my mail just when I was feeling very down and filled with pain both physically & emotionally."
St. Paul knows the importance of this ministry & is dedicated to continue this outreach --all through a simple card. If you would like a card sent from the Church to someone, please contact Ginny Mullen (566-3609). Better yet, you can pick up cards on your own in the church to send to someone anytime. These cards are available for ANYONE to pick up & send ANYTIME and can be found in the church narthex. Know of a friend or co-worker going through a difficult time? Know of someone who lost a loved one? New baby? Let them know someone cares by sending them a small token of kindness. The cards are FREE! Among the inventory are Thinking of You, Birthday, Sympathy & Get Well cards. Blank cards are also available to add your own personalized message as well. Simply pick up a card, sign your name, affix a stamp and off it goes! Simple as that!
As this ministry continues to expand, help is also needed to create these cards. Anyone is welcome to join in the card-making fun. Just bring yourself and everything else is provided. No experience is necessary and participants come from all experience & age-levels! It truly is an evening of fellowship & fun that will make you come back again & again. Volunteers often say say they get just as much joy knowing they are creating something for someone as the recipient who will get the card.
